Screenings and Scans for Osteoporosis

In five minutes or less, an important number can be added to your medical record.

Bone Mineral Density

In five minutes or less, an important number can be added to your medical record. Your bone mineral density result.

Bone mineral density (BMD) tests determine the density of your hip, spine, wrist, heel or other bones, and help your doctor detect osteoporosis or predict your risk of developing it in the future. Bone mineral density testing is a safe, simple, painless way to measure bone health. There are two methods. Dexa scans and heel screening.

Dexa Scan

This is similar to an X-ray. You lie on a table while a moveable arm passes over your spine, hips or arms. A Dexa scan appointment can be scheduled by calling 610-402-TEST. Check with your insurance company about coverage for this test.

If your Dexa scan shows bone loss, discuss your results with your doctor and consider contacting the Metabolic Bone Program at 610-402-CARE to schedule an assessment of your bone health needs.

Heel Screening

Heel screening uses ultrasound to detect bone loss at the heel. Every two years, the Metabolic Bone Team will provide a heel screening at no cost to you. Call 610-402-CARE to schedule a heel screening.
